ORG on GitHubNotable changeBy Christopher W with Alfred

The ledger: every public change, in plain words

TL;DR: A new Ledger page turns the public history of ORG's code into a calm, readable record: every change in plain words, grouped by day and by kind, credited to whoever made it, and linked to the change itself. It refreshes every day.

The changelog tells the story of what changed and why. Underneath it are hundreds of small steps, recorded on GitHub as commits, which most people will never open. The ledger brings them here:

  • Plain words. Each commit’s one-line description is tidied into a sentence, with developer shorthand like feat(nav): turned into a kind (New, Look and feel, Words and pages, Fixes, Speed, Sign-in and members, Records and docs, Behind the scenes) and an area (Navigation, Home page, Search…).
  • Grouped the way you’d look for it. By month, then day, then repository: the live site, the API, the entry portal, this AstroLog, the profile and the brand assets.
  • Credited the same way as everywhere here. Names and pictures follow this AstroLog’s own list of people, and each line links to the change on GitHub for anyone who wants the detail.
  • Only what’s public, without the noise. It reads only ORG’s public repositories. Merges, the automatic commits that publish this site, and bot chores are left out, and a change that was undone straight away cancels out with its undo. The top of the page says how many were left out and why.
  • Filters. Choose kinds, pick one repository, or search for a word or a name.

The ledger is rebuilt whenever this AstroLog is published and once a day on a schedule, so it never falls far behind. It’s also in the welcome guide (the “Changelog and library” step), in / search, and in the header.
